upcoming concerts

Hello all,

I was just surfing the web (I work 12 hour shifts, I need to pass the time) and found some cool concerts that I won’t be able to see L. Just because I can’t go to them, doesn’t mean you can’t.

Phil Keaggy – October 29th at the Riv
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
I saw Phil Keaggy a couple years ago at KB. It was raining and everyone else wanted to go back to the campground, so I didn’t get to stay for the whole concert. He’s on the mellow side and not going to be for everyone. However, he can do some amazing things with his guitar. He’s been placed up there with people like Eric Clapton as best guitar players by Rolling Stone. It’s close by, so if you have a Saturday night free, you may want to check it out.

Thousand Foot Krutch – November 2nd at The Icon in Buffalo
I don’t have prices on this one. If I were home, I would so be at this concert. We have their latest CD, The Art of Breaking, in our library. This one’s been getting a lot of play on my ipod recently. They are a hardcore band out of Canada. And, with the exception of Celine Dion and Bryan Adams, just about anything musically that comes out of Canada is good.

Mark Shultz – November 3rd at the Palace Theater in Lockport
Don’t have ticket prices on this one either. Mark Schultz is going to be on the lighter/pop side. He gets a lot of airplay on FLN. The song that gets the most play (which I can’t stand BTW) is “Letters From War”. I think we have his CD in the library too.

Greetings from sandland

Hello all,

If you were at YouthQUEST last Sunday, you would have noticed that I wasn't there. I offer my deepest apologies for not letting you all know in advance. In case Kristi didn't tell you, here's the skinny on where I am:

The majority of my reserve unit has been activated to support Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. This has been something that has been in the works for a while. I was originally scheduled to be deployed from March to June. My shop chief, who was supposed to be on this current rotation, had to go in for emergency surgery at the end of September. They needed someone to fill his slot, so they asked me. I can't give out specific info on where I am, but I am at a major air base in the middle east.

Here's a little description of the area I'm in currently. Take a look outside. Any building you see, pretend it is tan. Ignore any trees, bushes, flowers and anything else growing. Replace the grass with dirt and rocks. When you look up at the sky, there are no clouds. Just haze during the day and fog at night. Sometimes the fog gets so heavy, you can barely see 10 feet. The weirdest thing is at night, the moon is sideways. I am assuming it is because I am closer to the equator.

The base I'm at is HUGE! This is the largest base I've been at in the mid east. They have plenty of things to do when I'm not working. There's a large gym, a rec center with TV's and video games, a library, coffee shop, and a Regal-size movie theater, and a chow hall that's open 24-7. They are keeping my pretty busy over here. I'm working 12 hour shifts, four days on, one off.

The weather here is hot. During the day, it gets over 100 degrees with 50-60% humidity. It does get cool at night, but the humidity goes up to near 100%. The other night I went outside and thought "Gee, it's kinda chilly." I went over to the thermometer and it was 70.

Just so none of you are standing outside in the cold this Sunday night, remember there's no YouthQUEST due to the long weekend. Have fun, stay warm and finish your homework early and enjoy Monday off! If you're dying to turn in GTWO point or collect prizes, stop by the nursery.

Get Lost!

Come and join us on Saturday October 1st as we take a trip to the Maize. We will be meeting at the Maize on Niagara Falls Blvd (Just east of Old Falls) in North Tonawanda. Have your parents drop you off there at 6:30 and pick you up at 9. It will most likely be muddy, so dress appropriately and don’t forget to bring a flashlight. The questions guiding you through The Maize this year will be based on the story of Joseph. Whether you think this outing is really corny or totally amazing, it’s bound to be a good time!

Coffeehouse this Friday

Hi all. I hope you are all having a good week. I just wanted to let you know that the cookies are baking, the coffee beans are roasting, the air hockey table is waxed and the playstation is warmed up and ready to go!

Make sure you come to the coffee house this Friday night from 7.30-11.00. Bring a friend or two. This is a great way to show your non-church going friends how fun we can be.
